Rally against child birth deaths

Besides holding a rally was held today against the recent three incidents of death relating to child birth at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the Coordinating Committee of the JACs on Unnatural deaths in RIMS submitted a memorandum to the RIMS authority.
The rally began from Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, Uripok and went on till RIMS.
Protesters were seen holding placards demanding the resignation of RIMS Director, Prof S Sekharjit.
The rally was thwarted near RIMS Gate by the police.
However, five members of the committee were allowed to meet the Institute's authority including its Director wherein they also handed a memorandum.
The memo demanded to produce the four-member enquiry committee's report that probed the death of Keithellakpam (O) Devjani (37) of Tera Lukram Leirak on Nov 20 at RIMS' Gynae ward in connection with child birth.
It also demanded fitting disciplinary and departmental action against the doctors, nurses and staff involved in the case.
It also demanded restriction of doctors from private practice and resignation of the Director on moral ground.
Installation of CCTV camera in RIMS and introduction of biometric attendance system are among others demand of the Committee.
Later, addressing a press meet at the office of Kanglei Ima Lup, Uripok, convenor of the Coordinating Committee of the JACs on Unnatural Deaths in RIMS, Mayengbam Dorendro said that an altercation took place between the committee members and RIMS Director, Dr Sekharjit when the later used impolite words on seeing the demands in the memorandum.
The convenor said that the agitation would be carried on.
It may be mentioned that Aheibam (O) Bijeta (25) of Lamsang died at RIMS on Sept 13, 2013 in connection with child birth.
On Nov 20, 2013, Kh (O) Devjani (31) of Tera Lukram Leirak met the same fate while the same had befallen Irengbam (O) Sandhyarani (25) of Lamboi Khongnangkhong on Dec 11, 2013 .
