State Police keen to start community policing: DGP

DGP Shahid Ahmed has said that Manipur Police is working on to start community policing in the State by February next month in order to promote partnerships between police and communities to address community concerns and ensure the police respond to the needs of the broader public.
Talking to media persons at his office chamber today evening, DGP Shahid Ahmed said that the community policing would be taken up by Manipur Police to expedite the investigations and maintain rapport with the public.
Some specific officers from the District Police Stations would be chosen to coordinate with the community leaders to kick start community policing in the State.
Moreover, Manipur Police would hire experts from the forensic science laboratories outside the State to expedite the investigation of crimes in the State, the DGP noted.
He further said that Imphal East and Imphal West are two districts of the State with highest crime rate.
Some police officers would be deputed solely for investigations and not for maintaining law and order in the State.
Untrained personnel would also be weeded out from amongst the trained personnel of the elite Manipur Police Commando, Ahmed said.
The DGP also warned that any police personnel involved in crimes would be removed from the Department and appropriate action would be taken.
He maintained that security arrangement has been beefed up at all areas in view of frequent bomb blasts and firing.
The police department is working 24X7 to safeguard the public and maintain law and order properly in the State.
