Imphal, January 20 2014 :
Movement of heavy vehicles, including loaded trucks can now take Makru bridge since the repairing of the bridge located along Imphal-Silchar road or National Highway-37 by the Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) has completed, official sources said on Monday.
Sources in Jiribam Police Station said the repairing work taken up by TDC on the bridge located between Lungkao and Keiphundai in Manipur's Tamenglong district was completed by 1 pm today.
The repairing of Makru bridge began on January 18 .
TDC had earlier threatened to stop ferrying of essential commodities on the highway, considered to be the second lifeline of the state, after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) failed to pay heed to the call for repairing of the 246 ft long bridge.
Actually, the task for development of the highway solely lies with BRO.
