Briefing media persons at Manipur Police Headquarters this afternoon, the DGP said that his foremost priorities are raising the level of professionalism among police officers and at the same time speed up the pace of police investigation.
Saying that the speed of police investigation is closely related with different measures taken up to deter criminal activities, DGP Shahid Ahmad said that some police officers of Imphal police station and Porompat police station would be relieved of all other duties except investigation.
Claiming that 800 different cases were brought to their logical conclusions during the previous month alone, the DGP informed that the Forensic Science laboratory would be augmented so that its performance is enhanced.
Forensic Science experts would be hired at certain fees, if necessary.
Admitting that policing presents a dismal picture in hill districts, the DGP stated that policing activities would be introduced in each and every locality of all the districts.
On being enquired about police officers indulging in graft practices, the DGP said that he too received some unconfirmed reports.
Commandos have been discharging their duties satisfactorily but additional training would be given so that are as efficient as Grey Hounds apart from transforming themselves as a disciplined force.
Commandos would be given special training at Manipur Police Training College, Pangei and Counter Insurgency and Anti-Terrorism Centre, Jiribam.
The training schedule would be longer at Jiribam so that they can learn more about jungle warfare, stated Shahid Ahmad.
Commandos would be given training in groups of 150 for a period of two months in rotation.
Moreover, a new training centre would be developed during the period of 14th Finance Commission.
In the meantime, a proposal has been submitted to the Government to pay allowances earlier given to commandos but now kept suspended.
