Govt to fund upkeep of Khongjom war complex

Chief Minister N Biren said that his government will allocate Rs 10 lakh every year in the budget for maintenance and management of Khongjom War Memorial Complex.
Apart from inauguration of an Open Gym at Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Kheba Ching foothill on Saturday, the CM also dedicated to the public a similar open gym at Khuman Lampak.
The gyms have been installed by the Chief Minister's Indigenous Martial Arts Akademi with support from planning department.
Speaking at the Khongjom event, the CM emphasised on the historical importance of the war memorial at Khongjom and stressed the need for proper upkeep of the site while assuring budgetary allocation of Rs 10 lakh every year for maintenance of the war memorial.
Biren also expressed disappointment over the involvement of Manipuris in illegal drug trafficking across the country.
It is disheartening to see Manipuris among those arrested in connection with drug trafficking in different parts of the country.
The government is doing everything to improve the living standard of the people.
Houses are being built, rations provided free of cost and at subsidised rate, and free cashless treatment facilities provided to the people.
Despite such initiatives, people are still involved in illegal drug trade, he lamented, while urging all to stop such criminal activities.
The CM went on to say that open gyms have been installed in different parts of the state including Senapati, Cheirao Ching, Thangmeiband and Marjing Polo Complex.
The government is also setting up more such facilities in various districts including in Churachandpur and these gyms can be expanded if needed.
The government is putting in efforts to bring some positive changes in the society, Biren said while highlighting mission oriented schemes and programmes initiated by the government including Go To Hills, Go to Village, Chief Ministergi Sotharabasingi Tengbang, School Fagathansi Mission, War on Drugs among others.
The CM also explained the need to help those desirous to overcome drug addiction and said that the state government is setting up Drug Rehabilitation Centres and encouraging sports activities among the addicts.
During the inauguration of the gyms, trainers demonstrated on using the equipment.
Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen also attended the inauguration held at Khongjom, while CAF&PD minister L Susindro and YAS director T Phulen were present at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex event.
