Nemcha Kipgen inaugurates Penial Care Centre in Champhai

Textiles, Commerce, and Industry & Cooperation Minister, Nemcha Kipgen formally inaugurated the Penial Care Centre (for Drugs and Alcohol De-Addiction and Rehabilitation) at Ward No 1 Keithelmanbi Military Colony near SDO Champhai office in Champhai Sub Division of Kangpokpi District.
Nemcha Kipgen unveiled the inaugural plaque in the presence of Social Welfare/ Skill/Labour & Employment/ Fisheries Minister, H Dingo Singh and Saikul MLA, Kimneo Haokip Hangshing.
Pastor Thangminlal Haokip, Gambih Pastor KBC No 5 dedicated the Centre after the formal inauguration.
Considering the alarming rise in drug abuse and consumption among the youth, a military pensioner, Pachon Kipgen, and his wife Hoinu Kipgen established the Penial Care Centre with their 32 years of savings.
Addressing the gathering, Nemcha Kipgen stressed on the importance of reliable rehabilitation centres and added that drug addiction causes destructive effects not only on abusers and people around them but the society as a whole.
She continued that such centres are designed to help drug addicts salvage their lives by offering various services including treatment and counseling while adding that a good De-Addiction and Rehabilitation centre is required so that those drug addicts can be assisted in getting over the situation and live a normal life.
The minister also emphasized the necessity of employing highly qualified counselors and medical doctors to help drug abusers quit their destructive habits in the centre.
While appreciating Pachon Kipgen and his wife Hoinu for their tireless efforts and sacrifice in establishing the Penial Care Centre, the Minister stated that setting up such a centre is not an easy task as it requires dedication and utmost love.
She also urged the Minister concerned to initiate all possible assistance for the welfare of the centre, being the first and only such centre in the district so far.
"A collective effort and involvement of all is the need of the hour to curb the drug menace" said H Dingo Singh while adding that the State Government and Social Welfare Department are tirelessly imparting awareness to fight the drug menace.
"Let us not ill-treat those drug addicts/abusers rather we must show them the greatest love while providing them with awareness of the drugs to bring them back to normal life", he added.
"The necessity of a DeAddiction and Rehabilitation Centre in our society is not a good sign and is very unfortunate but whether we like it or not it has become the need of the hour given the alarming drug menace in the society", asserted Kimneo Haokip Hangshing.
Various prominent Kuki gospel artists and choirs enthralled the crowd during the event.
Apart from various CSOs of Kangpokpi district, SAHILCA, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi, 22 Assam Rifles Kangpokpi Post Commander, village chiefs and Church leaders also attended the event.
