Imphal, November 19 2022:
Tribal Haat Expo, which aims to promote the agricultural products of the tribal communities in the State and provide a market platform for selling the same will be held soon.
The Chairman of the Tribal Haat Manipur (THAAM) Ngatangmi Hungyo announced this to the media on the sideline of the "Installation Programme of THAAM executive members" which was held today at the Tarung Women Hall in Imphal East.
Lamenting that the tribal business communities, particularly the tribal street vendors are facing many inconveniences in selling their products in Imphal due to monopoly on prices by the buyers, Ngatangmi claimed that the hill people who are dependent for their livelihood on selling the products of horticulture, agriculture and artistic works like pottery in Imphal lacks appropriate market platform and exposures to sell their products.
He continued that the above factors lead to the hampering in the economic growth of the tribal communities whose major source of livelihood are agriculture and horticulture.
Claiming that there are certain Central Government schemes which promote the tribal entrepreneurs and artisans, the Chairman urged the State Government to effectively implement the same in the State.
When asked about the schedule for hosting/organizing the Tribal Haat Expo, Ngatangmi informed that the tentative schedule for the expo is either from January 10 to 16 although the organizers are awaiting for the
State Government's approval.
