Fisheries Minister releases fingerlings

Fisheries Minister Heikham Dingo Singh inaugurated a newly installed aerator at Manipur University campus and released 50,000 fingerlings into a pond at the varsity, today.
The Minister attended a programme organised by Fishery Club, Manipur University on Transforming Manipur for Achieving Self-Reliant, Sufficient and Surplus Economical Status by Transforming Unproductive Water Bodies to Productive Water Bodies through Fish Rearing and Production as a part of Blue Revolution.
At the occasion, H Dingo Singh highlighted the need to improve the Fisheries Department so as to increase the fish production of the State.
The Minister also said that the Fisheries Department sold fishes worth over Rs 3 crore in the recent fish fair as a part of the Ningol Chakkouba on October 26.Saying that the programme was organised after due consultation with experts and scientists to spread knowledge on fish farming, the Minister added that the Government is also working to increase the fish production by using modem technology and methods.
Fisheries Director Balkrisna Heisnam also spoke at the event.
He said that a Fisheries App will be launched to cater to the needs of both the buyers and sellers.
"There is no proper database available at present at the department but some fisheries databases can be collected from the Environment & Ecology Department," he said.
Balkrisna Heisnam also said that the Fisheries App will contain details about the fish farmers along with the pictures of fishes they rear.
Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice- Chancellor of Manipur University also attended the programme.
