Noney, November 19 2022:
The construction of water supply system under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme at Charoichagotlong Part-1 (Phoibut) in Noney district is alleged to be executed by a contractor without providing pipelines for majority households in the village.
The work of the project under JJM with an amount of Rs 50 lakh was carried out under a contractor namely P Gaikhangthai as mentioned at the erected signboard by PHED at Phoibut village and the project was meant to benefit 92 households.
ZSUM forest & environment secretary Dinkhuilung Thaimei told the media that after a complaint received from villagers of Phoibut, a team of Zeliangrong Student Union Manipur (ZSUM) along with media persons and villagers inspected the worksite and found incomplete connection of pipelines.
The team also found cemented tap connection to some houses instead of pipeline connection, he added.
The problem faced by the villagers gets worse during winter season as water usage for domestic purposes is higher, according to some of the villagers.
The central government's various schemes and projects to bring development, especially in the hill district, have been misused by some individuals for their own pockets.
The evil practices which are harmful for the society must stop by the authority concerned, said the villagers.
Meanwhile, the ZSUM said that it will not remain as a mere spectator but will launch democratic agitation if the department concerned fails to take up any positive actions over the issue.
The manner in which only two to three households out of 92 households have got pipeline connection in the village shows that the work is incomplete.
"Also, we had come across reports by some local newspapers and electronic media a month ago about the incomplete work of the water supply system in Phoibut village," the Union added.
The villagers wanted completion of the work in a short period of time.
