Minister Dingo releases 50K fingerlings in MU facility

Fisheries minister Heikham Dingo Singh released 50,000 fingerlings of different fish species into the newly installed Aerator at Manipur University campus, which was inaugurated on Saturday in a programme organised by Fishery Club, Manipur University.
Speaking at the event, minister Dingo highlighted the importance of Fisheries department and informed that the government is making whole-hearted efforts for effective operation of the department.
The achievements of the department was witnessed during the recently held Ningol Chakkouha fish fair on October 26 when the sale proceeds of fishes reached about Rs 3,33,60,000 per day, he said.
The minister also stressed on the need to transform the state for achieving 'Self-Reliance, Sufficient and Surplus Economical' status by transforming unproductive water bodies to productive ones through fish rearing and production as a part of Blue Revolution.
Dingo further stated that the event is also an awareness programme to decipher knowledge to the masses about fish-rearing in water bodies.
The programme was held after consultation with experts and scientists experienced on fish rearing and production.
"We are discussing what we can do with existing water bodies to increase the fish yield taking into account the essential prerequisites of fish rearing like technology, iron content, reasonable area size of the water bodies and scientific techniques," he added.
Fisheries director Balkrisna Heisnam, who also attended the event, informed about plan to launch a Fisheries App that will cater to the needs of both buyers and sellers.
The App could be launched with a budget of about Rs 7-8 lakh only, he said.
He also observed that as there is no proper database available with the department, some fisheries database can be collected from the Environment & Ecology Department that will give details about wetlands and farm ponds.
Balkrisna also said that Fisheries App will contain details about fish farmers, contact numbers and complete picture of fishes reared by him.
The App will apply to all districts, especially the valley districts and sp far process for Imphal East has been done, he added.
The event was also attended by Manipur University vice-chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh as president and officials of Fisheries Department among others.
