Swachhata Run marks World Toilet Day observance

Imphal, November 19 2022:
Public health engineering department, Imphal East division organised Swachhata Run (A run for Sampurna Swachhata) in connection with the observance of World Toilet Day on Saturday.
Arjuna Awardee Sushila Likmabam flagged off the run from Ibudhou Marjing Khubham at Heingang and it culminated at Maiba Khul.
PHED, Imphal East executive engineer Kongkham Bideshwar, Heingang GP pradhan K Jayanta, elected members of Waiton GP, Kontha Khabam GP and Lairikyengbam Leikai GP, and officials of PHED Imphal East division also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Kongkham Bideshwar emphasised on the importance of proper toilet facility while highlighting the health crisis that could cause from lacking proper toilet facility.
The run was organised with the objective to create awareness on the importance of toilet among the people, he said.
Top three winners in both male and female categories were awarded cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 along with eight consolation prizes.
thoubal: As part of World Toilet Day observance held under the theme 'Groundwater and Sanitation: Making the Invisible Visible', Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Thoubal Division organised a district level open marathon 'Swachhta Run' on Saturday.
The 8-km Run from Phouden public ground to Khoirom public ground was flagged off by Leirongthel-Ningel Gram Panchayat nominee pradhan Salam Kumar.
Speaking at the event, PHED Thoubal executive engineer N Livingstone Singh informed that the World Toilet Day is observed to raise awareness on having sanitary latrine in one's own residence and prevent open defecation along with encouraging people not to let direct toilet outlets into the drains.
He also thanked the event sponsor Sur Hospital-Khangabok, Zilla Parishad member, pradhan, district level officers and others for extending their support.
The Run was won by Ningthoujam Roben of Heirok and awarded Rs 10,000 and a certificate, 2nd position went to Md Sadique of Moijing (Rs 7000 and certificate), while 3rd position winner Ningthoujam Somorjit of Heirok was present -ed Rs 5000 and a certificate.
Consolation prizes of Rs 2000 and a certificate each were awarded to runners who came in 4th to 8th position.
KAKCHING: World Toilet Day was observed at three Gram Panchayats of Kakching district namely, Pallel, Irengband and Langmeidong jointly by Kakching PHED Division, Implementation Support Agency (ISA), JJM in Kakching Alliance for Development Alternative Manipur (ADAM) and Village Water & Sanitation Committee under the aegis of District Water and Sanitation Committee, Kakching on Saturday.
The observance functions at Pallel Bazar organised by Pallel GP, Panchayat Ghar by Irengband GP and at Panchayat Ghar by Langmeidong were marked by 'Swachhta Pledge' and 'Swachhta Run' .
