Minister Govindas launches Plastic Bottle banks

Works minister Govindas Konthoujam on Saturday launched Plastic Bottle Banks for collection of discarded plastic bottles at Mini Secretariat complex in Bishnupur.
The launch programme was organised by Bishnupur district administration in association with Samvardhinee Nyas, Manipur Prant and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Bishnupur.
The function was attended by Bishnupur deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram, Manipur Plastic Industries proprietor G Sharma, Samvardhinee Nyas Manipur head Oinam Indira Devi, Bishnupur NYK deputy director Dr Salam Dhanachandra, district officials and staff, and functionaries of Samvardhinee Nyas.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Govindas lauded the district administration for the initiative to curb littering and plastic pollution in the district.
Cautioning that plastic wastes can cause devastating environmental impact to soil health, flora and fauna, and also threaten human's health, he urged all to minimise plastic pollution for the future generation and a healthier environment.
According to DC Bikram, about 60 Plastic Bottle Banks will be installed at strategic locations across the district including at the venue for the upcoming Sangai Festival at Moirang Khunou.
It may be mentioned that the plastic banks which are fabricated out of iron mesh were donated by ministers and MLAs of the district, police, NYKS, several DLOs and Samvardhinee Nyas among others.
