TPR below 5pc after five months; one dies

The daily positivity rate fell below 5 per cent for the first time after five months on Wednesday even as government bulletins reported one fatality and 171 new positive cases of Covid-19 out of 3544 samples tested, registering a positivity rate of 4.83 per cent against 6,56 per cent recorded on Tuesday.
The second wave of Covid-19 began in the state in April and the graph picked up in a fast pace crossing the 5 per cent positivity rate threshold in the second half of the month.
The highest single day positivity rate during the second wave was recorded on May 22 at 23.93 per cent.
Test positivity rate below 5 per cent is considered essential to bring down the transmission rate.
However, considering the low test capacity and fluctuating positivity rate that has been witnessing in the past few days, it is not sure if the situation will improve rapidly.
With the 171 newly infected cases recorded on Wednesday, the active cases rose to 2214 from 2174 on the previous day.
Out of caseload, 421 (19.02 per cent) are in home isolation, 750 33.88 per cent) in CHICs, 674 30.44 per cent) in CCCs and 369 (16.67 per cent) in hospitals.
Among the hospitalised patients, 76 are admitted to ICU/HDU wards, 111 are on oxygen support and 25 on ventilator support.
However, there is no report on number of patients on oxygen and ventilator support from JNIMS even though it has 157 patients.
On the other hand, there are six patients on oxygen support in different CCCs.
As of Wednesday evening, 531 beds including 107 ICU/HDU beds are available in different hospitals.
There is no updated information on bed vacancy in other facilities but as of Tuesday evening 2793 beds were available in different Covid Care Centres and 400 beds (24 ICU/HDU) in district hospitals and CHCs.
So far, the state has recorded 89,641 positive cases and 1462 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.
The current month recorded 5108 new cases and 54 fatalities out of which 1344 new cases and 19 fatalities were added in the last seven days alone.
According to official reports, the 171 new positive cases included 164 civilians (85 male & 79 female) and 7 personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) whose samples were detected at RIMS (11), JNIMS (19) and other testing centres (141).The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (38), Imphal West (62), Thoubal (6), Bishnupur (19), Kakching (2), Ukhrul (13), Churachandpur (9), Chandel (5), Senapati (2), Tamenglong (5), Tengnoupal (1), Noney (1) and Kangpokpi (1) .
All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.
The lone death reported in the last 24 hours was a resident of Imphal West and the victim had received both doses of Covid vaccine.
With this, cumulative number of deaths has reached 1836.In the last 24 hours, 130 persons were discharged from home isolation (37), RIMS (4), JNIMS (10), CCCs (77) and CHICs (2) .
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,19,041 (general population -1,14,774 and CAPF personnel - 4,267).Number of recovered cases is 1,14,991 (general population - 1,10,792 and CAPF personnel - 4,199) and number of active cases is 2,214 (general population - 2,151 and CAPF personnel - 63).The recovery rate is 96.60 per cent.
In the last 24 hours, 1071 D-type and 227 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities.
Only 4851 vaccine doses were administered on Tuesday, thus taking the cumulative number of vaccinated individuals to 12,15,782 out of which 4,23,087 have been fully inoculated.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (40,728), Imphal East (26,352), Thoubal (9291), Churachandpur (9978), Kangpokpi (2737), Tamenglong (3253), Bishnupur (8953), Senapati (2180), Ukhrul (2641), Kakching (6314), Chandel (2253), Noney (1058), Tengnoupal (1031), Jiribam (1015), Kamiong (824) and Pherzawl (433) .
Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (611), Imphal East (432), Thoubal (168), Churachandpur (156), Kangpokpi (58), Tamenglong (13), Bishnupur (185), Senapati (8), Ukhrul (32), Kakching (110), Chandel (35), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (4) and Pherzawl (0) .
Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 38,363 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 24,029 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 4,12,030 tests per million population against the national average of 3,98,659 TPM.
Case fatality rate stands at 1.54 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, only 3544 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 4.83 per cent per cent while the cumulative positivity came down to 9.31 per cent.
