The members of Thoubal District MP Candidature Demand Committee and People's Plea for Representation in Parliament have urged the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, to choose the State's Rajya Sabha member from among the people of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency who have the voting right but not the right to contest the Lok Sabha Election.
Talking to media persons, Convenor of People's Plea for Representation in Parliament M Sushilkumar said that the members of Thoubal District MP Candidature Demand Committee and People's Plea for Representation in Parliament met Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam at his office at Congress Bhavan today.
The demand for Rajya Sabha MP was raised during the meeting which lasted for about one hour.
About two lakh voters of Khangabok, Wangjing-Tentha, Heirok, Kakching, Wabagai, Hiyanglam and Sugnu Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal district and Jiribam Assembly Constituency of Imphal East come under Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
They have the voting right but they cannot contest the Lok Sabha Election.

The term of incumbent Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing is due to end in April this year, he added.
