'Curfew' sends non-locals indoors

Imphal, February 12 2014:
Non-locals in major market areas of Imphal on Wednesday remained indoors with all their shops shut down during the 19-hour clampdown against the community by Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC).
JSCC, an umbrella body of six student bodies namely All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Manipur Students' federation (MSF), Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) and Apunba Ereipakki Maheiroi Sinpang Lup (AIMS), imposed the restriction against non-Manipuris from moving out and indulging in their business from 5 am to midnight today.
The committee has come down hard on the non-locals to protest the recent incidents in Delhi where killing, assault, and rape of people from the North Eastern states took place.
All shops owned by non-Manipuris in the two main markets�Thangal bazaar and Paona bazaar�down their shutters and people from the community remained indoors during the curfew hours.
However, untoward incidents were not reported during the course of the curfew.
