JNMDA cultural team leaves

Imphal, January 15 2014 :
A 22-member cultural troupe of JN Manipur Dance Academy led by its Director L Upendro Sharma today Imphal for Myanmar tomorrow to participate in the Manipuri Cultural Festival being organised jointly by the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur and Indian Embassy, Yangon with support from the Myanmar Government.
The troupe would be presenting Maharas on January 17 at Manipur Basti of Mandalay and traditional Manipuri dance and music on January 18 at National Theatre, Mandalay and at Mya Sandar Hall of Monywa on January 19 .
This would be visit to Myanmar since its inception.
Earlier cultural troupes of the Academy visited Myanmar in 1964 and 1995.Meanwhile, a 5-member cultural troup of the Academy led by Production Unit in-charge W Lokendrajit Singh left Imphal yesterday to participate in the Sharangdev Samaroh to be organised by Mahagami on January 17 at Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
The group would present Pung Cholom and Dhol-Dhollok Cholom in the festival.
W Lokendrajit Singh would also be delivering a lecture cum demonstration on the Tal and rhythm of Nata-Sanskirtana.
The programme is being sponsored by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
