Ukhrul, March 24 2022:
Barely five months after a mysterious epidemic claimed hundreds of buffaloes in northern Ukhrul, out-break of another unknown disease has resurfaced and killed several buffaloes at New Tusom village in the region.
According to reports culled from the villagers, at least seven buffaloes were found dead in a mysterious manner by the locals at different traditional grazing fields of the village on Thursday.
Some of the buffalo carcasses showed signs of nasal bleeding and passage of faeces mixed with blood while some of the bodies had swollen anus.
Villagers feared that many more buffaloes could have been killed by the mysterious disease.
The locals were reportedly alarmed after spotting the dead bodies of seven buffaloes on Thursday, following which buffalo owners in the village began organised search for their animals in the grazing fields.
As search continued, it was not known how many buffaloes had exactly died due to the disease till the filing of the report.
It may be recalled that around October last year, as many as 256 Asiatic water buffaloes died due to a similar mysterious disease in remote villages including Wahong, New Tusom, Tusom CV, Tusom Khullen, Kharasom and Razai Khullen located near the Indo Myanmar international border.
