State Handloom Exhibition concludes

The two-week long State Handloom Expo 2021-22 organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans Cooperative Society Limited under the aegis of NHDP and Development Commissioner of Handlooms, ministry of textiles concluded at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest of the valedictory function, Cooperative Society assistant registrar (audit) Ak Sushila expressed concern over the adverse impact on handloom sector after the introduction of power loom as well as imitation of local handloom products by garment manufacturing companies in other states.
A boost in economy is crucial in order to bring development in the society and economic development can be brought through skilled professionals, human resource development, high moral ethics, determination, innovation, creativity and developing work culture, she said.
Everybody knows the role played by women in the economic development of the state and they are often called the mirror of the society.
Women need to play the part of being role models and lead the society, she said while encouraging women weavers of the state to continue their works and put more efforts towards promoting the handloom products at the global platform.
Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd vice-president S Bhubon explained that the expo was organised with the objective to provide a marketing platform to the weavers of the state.
It is also an opportunity to interact with one another and bring healthy competition among the weavers, societies and entrepreneurs.
Seminars and workshops were organised for weavers during the expo and they were informed about the various benefits they could get from the government, he said, while assuring of organising similar events in the future too.
Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd president A Ronika presided over the valedictory function which was also attended by NHDC officer in-charge Y Shantikumar as guest of honour.
Certificates were distributed to participating weavers on the occasion.
