JCCWB rescues wild animals

Joint Coordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity (JCCWB), Manipur has rescued a number of wild animals and handed them over to Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba in the last few days.
In a release, JCCWB informed that villagers of M Ringpam village, Tengnoupal district rescued two weakened Slow Loris (Yong Ikaithibi), a mother and her youngling that fled from the nearby hill forest after it was lit on fire by unknown miscreants and were handed over to the Committee on March 20.On the other hand, a male Goral (Sabeng) which was found in weak condition near a pond besides a foothill at Phundrei Makha Leikai in Thoubal district was turned In to the members of United Good Mission, Manipur and JCCWB on Wednesday, it added.
The release continued that the Committee after contacting the DFO Thoubal handed over the Goral to Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba.
JCCWB convener Romesh Ningthoujam stated that rising number of cases in the state where wild animals are entering human settlement areas due to loss of habitat is not a good sign.
People must realise that conservation of wild life and environment is of utmost importance as loss of even one of the endangered species can affect humans as well as damage the ecological balance, he added.
