Assam Rifles celebrates 187th raising day

Union Minister of State (Home) Nityanand Rai formally launched the three-day 187th raising day celebration of Assam Rifles - The Oldest Paramilitary Force, on Thursday.
As the chief guest of the celebration organised at Assam Rifles War Memorial, Shillong in Meghalaya, the union minster attended a wreath laying ceremony along with DG Assam Rifles Lt Gen PC Nair and other senior officers.
The Union MoS, in a Special Sainik Sammelan, addressed all ranks of the Assam Rifles and complimented them for their outstanding contribution in fighting insurgency in the North East & Kashmir.
The minister thanked all ranks of Assam Rifles for their selfless service to the nation and further expressed his gratitude to the brave hearts of the force who have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
The minister recalled the supreme sacrifices made by Col Viplav Tripathi and four brave hearts in the Manipur encounter with insurgents in November 2021 in which the wife and child of Col Viplav also laid down their lives.
The minister praised the all-round attitude of the force which allows it to perform well in all situations and tasks whether border guard ing, counter insurgency or any other role.
He complimented the force towards women empowerment which has led to deployment of large number of riflewomen (mah-ila soldiers) on frontline duties.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Assam Rifles towards tree plantation for having successfully planted more than 31 lakh trees in difficult terrain and under harsh climatic conditions.
Towards the end, the minister felicitated the veer naris during the Special Sainik Sammelan, planted a sapling and also interacted with all ranks, families and ex-servicemen of the force.
As a part of the celebration, Churachandpur and Loktak Battalions of IGAR (S) also conducted an interaction and felicitation event for Assam Rifles' ex-servicemen and veer naris at Simte Community Hall, Churachandpur and Battalion Headquarter, Kangvai in Bishnupur district on Thursday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the Assam Rifles ex-servicemen and veer naris were delighted to attend the interaction and high tea as it symbolises the fact that the Assam Rifles is a one big family dedicated in the service of the NE people.
Meanwhile, Somsai Battalion of IGAR (South) conducted ex-servicemen meet at Somsai Garrison to celebrate the 187th raising day on Thursday.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic attendance of approximately 25 veterans from Ukhrul district, who displayed an overwhelming response and expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the Assam Rifles Battalion.
During the event, informal interaction with ESM was carried out and addressed their needs.
As part of entertainment band display was organised and tea and refreshment were catered for the participants.
On the other hand, Churachandpur Battalion of IGAR (S) organised a medical camp for Assam Rifles ex-servicemen and veer naris at Simte Community Hall in Churachandpur on Thursday.
The medical team of Assam Rifles carried out health check-up of 200 families and provided medical advice, medicine and referrals for further treatment.
Some essential medicines were also distributed to the patients along with Covid prevention kits.
