House pays tributes to departed members

On the first day of the first session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, the House paid tributes to five deceased former members of the assembly with obituary references and observing two-minute silence on Thursday.
The five deceased former members of the House were ex MLAs Leitanthem Tomba of Thoubal assembly constituency, A Aza of Chingai constituency, Wahengbam Angou of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency; Mayengbam Manihar of Wabagai assembly constituency and former electoral college member of Manipuri Territorial Council (1952-57) and Manipur Territorial Assembly (1962-67) Athuibo Daimai.
In his obituary references, leader of the House N Biren said that L Tomba got elected on MPP ticket in 1984 and again 1995 and he had remained as sericulture minister.
In 2000, he got elected on MSCP ticket and became the education minister.
He was a leader with great integrity, Biren remembered while sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family.
CM Biren called A Aza as a great leader who had good relationship with all.
His demise is an irreparable loss for the state.
On the other hand, ex-MLA and former MP of Rajya Sabha Wahengbam Angou was also a great leader, who brought up various issues concerning the state in the parliament on several occasions.
Biren further said that Mayengbam Manihar had remained as dep uty speaker of the state assembly and served the public from the grassroots level.
He contributed to a great extent in the development of the state, Biren added.
Opposition leader Okram Ibobi also recalled the contributions made by the deceased former members of the House and paid respect to the departed souls.
He also shared the pain and sorrow of the bereaved families.
Speaker Th Satyabrata, MLAs Awangbow Newmai, Khashim Vashum and Usham Deben also shared their obituary references.
