Imphal, June 27 2021:
While asserting that online class should be continued for welfare of the student community, All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) has demanded the government to issue the order for implementation 7th UGC Pay Scale and Regulations 2018 before July 10 .
In a release, AMCTA general secretary Dr M Imocha informed that an executive meeting of the association was conducted online on Sunday.
The meeting reaffirmed the June 23 resolution adopted by the extended executive committee for continuing online classes for college students and to exert pressure on the government for implementing its core demands of UGC pay scale and regulations 2018 .
While contending that AMCTA is a pioneer body in the history of collegiate education in Manipur, Imocha said that the association has been working for the cause and service of the teachers since 1965 .
It was the first to submit memorandum to the chief minister and the education minister to implement the 7th UGC pay scale and regulations 2018 on July 30, 2020, the secretary said.
He recalled that AMCTA had even launched cease work strike and total shut down of colleges in the state from February 22, 2021 .
However, a meeting attended by the chief minister, the education minister and other stakeholders on March 6 signed an MOU, Imocha recounted.
Considering the challenging situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic and for the welfare of student community, AMCTA does not intend to launch any strike, Imocha asserted, while reiterating the demand that the government should issue relevant orders within July 10 .
Further action will be taken if the government fails to issue the order within the stipulated time, he cautioned.
