Couple trapped under overturned truck rescued
CM acknowledges rescue act of cops

Imphal, June 27 2021:
Timely intervention by Imphal West District Police saved the lives of two individuals who were trapped under a truck today at around 8.30 am near Yumjao Lairembi community hall, Wahengbam Leikai.
The couple, identified as Irengbam Gitaranjan (50) and Irengbam ongbi Manihanbi (45) of Uripok Yambem Leikai, were coming from Uripok line on a Honda Activa.
The incident happened when they were crossing the road towards Yumjao Lairembi when an earth laden truck, which was coming from Keishampat side, turned to the left to avoid hitting the couple, lost control and fell on its side.
The couple were trapped under the overturned truck along with the moped.
A team of Imphal West Police led by SP Dr S Ibomcha immediately rushed to the spot and initiated the rescue work along with the locals.

The couple was rescued after using a crane and an excavator and were taken to RIMS hospital by the police.
Lauding the efforts of the police and the locals, Chief Minister N Biren Singh uploaded a post on the social media promising a prize for the Imphal West District Police for their timely action that saved the lives of the couple.
In another instance, an accident that happened at Sagoltongba at around 1.30 pm today claimed one person.
The deceased has been identified as one Nongthombam Jiten (48), s/o N Shamo of Uripok Yambem Leikai.
The incident happened when the Swift Dzire car driven by the deceased skidded off the road and fell on the roadside drain.
