Imphal, June 27 2021:
The All Manipur College Teachers' Association has stated that it will continue conducting online classes for the time being in the wake of the Covid pandemic and showing concern over the academic pursuit of students.
The apex body of college teachers, in a statement stated that a meeting of AMCTA Secretariat was convened online today to discuss matters pertaining to the demand for 7th UGC Pay.
In the meeting, it was agreed to uphold the resolutions of the June 23 meeting of the Extended Committee of the association to continue with the online classes and press for the implementation of the 7th UGC Pay till July 10 at the same time.
AMCTA was the first to demand implementation of the 7th UGC Pay Scale and Regulation 2018 a memorandum in this regard was submitted on July 30 in 2018 to the Chief Minister and Education Minister.
A 10-point charter of demand was also submitted on September 29, 2018 to the State Government, it said.
In the history of collegiate education, AMCTA has been at the forefront for the welfare of college teachers and other causes, it said.
Since January 1, 1973, AMCTA has been dealing with the implementation of UGC schemes and time to time changes in the UGC norms and guidelines, it said.
Further cease work strikes by teachers from February 22, 2020 and even 'Total Shutdown' in demand of the 7th Pay were launched by teachers from both the hills and the valley before the State Government intervened and signed an MoU with all the stakeholders, it recalled.
Going on stir mode during the pandemic time will be a bit unreasonable and as such there is no decision to start agitation for time being even though the demand for the pay is justifiable, said AMCTA while adding that further course of action will be decided after July 10 .
