Churachandpur, June 27 2021:
Maize crops in large areas are being infested by Fall Army Worm (FAW) in Churachandpur district.
According to a source from the district agriculture department, nearly 20 hectares of maize crop cultivation have been affected by FAW.
However, due to efforts put in by agricultural department staff and largely due to time interventions by the farmers, most areas have been cleared from infestation of the worm.
District agriculture officer Ginzalian stated that the fight against FAW is continuing and expressed elation that in large areas the worms have been cleared and some of the crops are in the final stages of their growth.
He further said that there are few other maize fields which need to be attended closely so as to clear the worm and for this purpose they are providing insecticide Emmamactine Benzoate and others.
Meanwhile, there is the success story of one of the most active maize growers in terms of tackling FAW menace.
Muanlal alone planted maize in around 10 acres of land on the south eastern direction not very far away from proper Churachandpur town.
During the early part of May, all maize plants were severely infested by FAW with around 90 per cent of the crops attacked by the worms.
With the assistance of agriculture department staff, various types of pesticides were sprayed and now they have been tackled, he said.
Around 95 per cent of the worms have been eradicated and crops are on the verge of harvesting, he said, adding that crops will take one month or two to get mature for harvest.
