Imphal, August 01 2014 :
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi called on Governor VK Duggal at the Raj Bhavan this afternoon and discussed about establishment of a sports university in the State as announced by the NDA Government in the Lok Sabha during presentation of annual budget 2014 .
The meeting between the Governor and the Chief Minister started at 3.30 pm and the duo discussed about the Government of India's keen desire to start construction work of the proposed sports university from this year itself, informed an official source.
The Government of India has already intimated the State Government to identify sites suitable for construction of a sports university and hand over the requisite land to the Union Ministry of Sports.

Accordingly, the State Government has identified a number of probable sites for the sports university in Thou-bal, Bishnupur, Imphal West and Imphal East districts including areas adjoining Ukhrul district.
Sports Ministry officials would visit all these probable sites after the ongoing Parliament session before finalizing exact location of the sports university.
Even though many were speculating that the Chief Minister would consult the Governor about Ministry reshuffle, the agenda did not figure during the meeting.
Notably, scores of Congress MLAs were demanding complete replacement of the incumbent Cabinet Ministers including the Legislative Assembly Speaker, leaving out only the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister.
Taking due cognizance of the MLAs' demand, Chief Minister O Ibobi assured that Cabinet reshuffle would be effected after the Assembly session which concluded on July 28 .
It was this assurance of the Chief Minister which pacified the agitated Congress MLAs for the time being.
