Handloom Day observed

'The North East Textile Promotion Scheme was launched last year to promote handloom products of North East in which our state Manipur took the main initiative', maintained Minister of Commerce and Industries Govindas Konthoujam while speaking on the occasion of observing the 15th Handloom Day at GM Hall here today.
Minister Govindas, who attended the function as chief guest, said that Manipur being the front runner in promoting textile industries in the north east, the matter has also been brought up and discussed in the state Assembly to develop and bring up the status of the industry in the state.

The Government also plans to introduce a separate Directorate for Handloom Products and envisions incorporating the use of handloom materials for school and college uniforms, he stated.
Exhibitions for handloom products would be organized, he added.
The observation was also attended by B John Tlangtinkhuma, IAS, Director of Commerce and Industries and H.Rajendra Singh, Retd Assistant Director, Weavers services Centre, Ministry of Textile as guest of honour and president respectively.
