Manipur has fastest employment growth: Report

While Maharashtra has emerged as the largest employer among all states in the country; Manipur recorded the fastest growth of employment, according to the 6th Economic Census Report which was released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) on July 30 .
The data for the report provided by various establishments is said to have been compiled for the 8-year period from 2005-2013 and sectors like agriculture, public administration, defense and compulsory social security services activities kept out of this research.
As per the report, among the top 5 states of the country which provided maximum employment during the 8-year period under study, Maharashtra created/provided 1.43 crore jobs ahead of Uttar Pradesh (1.37 crore), West Bengal (1.15 crore), Tamil Nadu (1.08 crore) and Gujarat (90.63 lakh) while among Union Territories, Delhi is at the top with 29.84 lakh employment provided, Chandigarh at second with 2.38 lakh and Puducherry at third spot with 2.17 lakh employment.
When it comes to the top 5 states where the employment growth was fastest, with a growth rate of 83.29 percent, Manipur is ahead of Assam (78.84 percent), Sikkim (77.14 percent), Uttar Pradesh (75.26 percent) and Himachal Pradesh (68.81 percent).
The report further said that the total employment inside India rose by 34.35% to 12.77 crore wherein urban areas witnessed stronger growth compared to rural areas.
Proportion of women workforce marginally increased to 20.56% compared to 20% in 2005.Interestingly, more women in rural areas are working compared to women in urban location.
Only 19.8% of women in urban India go to work, compared to 30.9% in rural India.
