Breast Feeding week

The World Breast Feeding Week, jointly organised by Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India and State Social Welfare Department, has kick started at Institute of Co-operative Management (ICM), Lamphelpat from today.
Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, Social Welfare Director Dr Rangitabali Waikhom and ICM Director Dr Kh Somorendro graced the opening function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
A one-day State level symposium on the topic, 'Breast feeding: A winning goal for life' was held during the opening function.
Speaking at the occasion, AK Mirabai said that the day reminds the significance of breast feeding and responsibility of being a mother.
Proper breast feeding during infancy would help build up a healthy society, she added.
Contending that the State has 42 ICDS Blocks and 9805 Anganwadi Centres, the Minister said that the Government is providing nutritional foods through these centres.
In her speech, she also stressed on the need to provide healthy diet to both mother and child.
