Imphal, August 01 2014 :
Asserting that the workers of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Regional Campus at Makhan in Sadar Hills, Senapati district were particularly targeted by Meira Paibis (women folk) of Koirengei for some vested reasons, president of IGNTU Students Union, Regional Campus, Manipur Manglien Gangte has fervently appealed to all concerned not to target or assault individuals randomly for their jobs, roles or responsibilities.
The appeal has come in the wake of the physical assault meted out to Elangbam Hemanta Khaba on July 29, at around 11:30 at Koirengei by the women folk in connection with the current movement for implementation Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur.
Hemanta is an accountant of Credible Engineering Construction Projects Private Limited and is currently engaged by IGNTU to construct the regional campus of the university situated at Makhan village, Senapati district.
Manglien Gangte said that Hemanta was assaulted by the women folk on the charge that he was responsible for bringing in non-local labourers in Manipur.
"But the fact is that the victim is not responsible for hiring labourers beyond his assigned roles", expressed the union.
The students' union said that it is disappointing for the premier civil society of the state not to conduct proper verification before correcting such existing evils in the state and cause harm to innocent individuals.
The students urged the civil societies not to randomly target individuals by assaulting them through wrongful accusations and create undesirable consequences.
Further, the students' body urged for a proper explanation along with a full apology to be tendered to the victim by the perpetrators.
