Criticizing the incomplete blacktopping of the 38.10 Km stretch of road from BRTF Road to M Ringpam under Tengnoupal district, Khoibu Chiefs Association and Khoibu Centre Area Village Chiefs have urged the State Government and authorities concerned to repair the road which was constructed under PMGSY within a week.
People of the area along with Angcha Sakang, general secretary, Khoibu Chief Association and chief of Yamolching village; H Moses, chief, Karyam village; and Saka Ami, secretary, Khoibu village inspected the condition of the road on Wednesday morning.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Saka Ami stated that construction on the 38.10 Km stretch of road began under the supervision of contractor Mingyao Ruivanao and sub-contractor Yaiphaba from Uripok.
Claiming that only 1.5 km of the road has been blacktopped so far, he urged the State Government to intervene and renovate the road at the earliest.
He also expressed his discontent and questioned why the State Government had not conducted any follow up checks on the road construction.
He pointed out the inconveniences caused by crumbling culverts in the area to the public during medical emergencies.
Saka Ami further called upon the local MLA Letpao Haokip for speedy resolution of the issue and renovation of the road stretch and cautioned that over 5000 villagers of the surrounding villages will launch widespread protests if their demand falls on deaf ears.
It may be noted that the road stretch reportedly serves as a lifeline to 33 villages in the surrounding area of Khoibu Centre under Machi Block of Tengnoupal district.
The project funded by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India was set to be completed by February 2021 .
