Guv assures help as MLA, DC air woes in border areas

Governor La Ganesan on Wednesday visited Kasom Khullen sub-divisional headquarters in Kamjong district and interacted with district level officers (DLOs), representatives of civil society organisations (CSOs), village chiefs and villagers.
He heard the issues and grievances raised by them and assured to extend all possible help in the larger interest of the people.
The Governor inspected Kasom Khullen Higher Secondary School and interacted with students and teachers before taking stock of the ongoing construction works of the school.
He also enquired about the prevailing condition of Primary Health Centre, Kasom Khullen, the only health facility in the area.
Speaking at the interaction programme held at Sadbhavna Mandap at the sub-divisional headquarters, Governor Ganesan informed that he came to the sub-division to know the problems faced by the people and to explore the ways and means to address the genuine problems, and assured to look into the issues related to education, healthcare, connectivity, power, etc.
The Governor emphasised that there should be proper facilities for treating patients, good infrastructures along with adequate number of teachers for teaching students, all-weather roads and also a clean power supply as these are the basic needs of the people.
He continued that he will ask the departments concerned to look into the matter as well as the chief minister to take necessary steps in the larger interest of the people.
La Ganesan further said that drug abuse, poppy cultivation and drug trafficking have been a major issue and state government has been trying to curtail it.
He stated that number of drug users particularly among the youths is increasing manifold during the last few months.
This has to be, in any case, prevented with collective efforts including the like-minded CSOs and general public, he asserted.
The Governor appealed for public's cooperation saying that state government has already mooted taking action against cultivation of poppy plants particularly in the hill districts.
Large areas of poppy cultivation were destroyed and the movement is on, he added.
Expressing concern over the issues of illegal migration, smuggling of drugs, weapons, insurgents from neighbouring countries sneaking into India's territory, the Governor said that these activities should be prevented at any cost and urged full cooperation from the general public as the government alone cannot prevent such activities.
While appealing to the people to extend full cooperation to the security forces to contain the crimes, the Governor said, only then, the peace loving people of this beautiful state will be able to live peacefully.
On Covid vaccination, La Ganesan said that vaccination is the first priority to prevent the pandemic and appealed to the villagers to get vaccinated at least twice at the earliest.
On TB elimination, he said that government of India has already committed to eliminating TB from the country by 2025.As such, district authorities concerned should conduct a survey to find out TB patients to carry out remedial measures, he stressed.
The Governor also spoke on the importance of Swachh Bharat Mission to make India a clean India.
During the event, Governor La Ganesan felicitated Solimla Jajo of Kasom Khullen, the silver medallist at the recently concluded 54th Asian Bodybuilding Sports Championship in Maldives.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA of Phungyar AC K Leishiyo acknowledged that Kamjong district is lagging behind other districts in many fronts of development.
He also that although the district shares international boundary with Myanmar no business activities or transactions can be taken up as there are no facilities in the district.
Steps should be taken up to develop the district at par with the other districts of the state, he maintained.
Earlier, Kamjong deputy commissioner R Rang Peter made a power point presentation regarding various activities of administration and development in the district.
He informed the Governor that there has been acute shortage of manpower in many sectors including education and healthcare.
CSO leaders raised many issues and drew the attention of the Governor.
They also submitted memoranda to him.
Governor La Ganesan was accorded a warm welcome by MLA K Leishiyo, DC Rang Peter, SP P Manjit and other officials on his arrival at the sub-divisional headquarters.
The Governor was accompanied by his secretary Waikhom Bobby.
