KIYC: W Sonia gets fencing gold medal as Oshim settles for bronze

Imphal, February 08 2023:
Waikhom Sonia Devi shone in fencing competition to hand Manipur their fourth gold medal of the ongoing 5th Khelo India Youth Games as the state added two more medals to their tally on Wednesday.
Sonia beat Kanupriya of Haryana in the final of the U-18 girls foil individual event to claim her yellow metal.
Dippanshi of Chhattisgarh and Jenisha NV of Tamil Nadu shared the third place for bronze medals.
Other state fencer Oshini Konthoujam settled for the bronze medal in the U-18 girls' epee individual event, where Maharashtra's Anuja Lad clinched the gold medal after defeating her fellow fencer Mahi Aradwad.
Janhvi Jadhav (Maharashtra) was another bronze medal winner of the competition.
Following the Wednesday's results, the state's medal haul in fencing increased to four.
Manipur moved up to 12th place in the medal table after their Wednesday's performances.
They have won a total 16 medals.
Their medal haul includes four gold, six silver and six bronze - three gold, one silver and three bronze in boxing; one gold, one silver and two bronze in fencing; two silver medals in weightlifting; one silver in kayaking & canoeing; one silver in gat-ka; and one bronze in cycling.
Maharashtra are well-placed atop the medal standings with a total of 563 med als (38 gold, 33 silver and 31 bronze) .
