Similarly, beautification work of Khwairamband Ima Keithel and medians of major roads in Imphal area is underway ahead of the G-20 events to be held in the state later this month.
Beautification work of medians of major roads continued on Wednesday.
Workers could be seen painting the road medians.
At the same time, Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) issued a notice on Wednesday informing that Ima Keithel No 1 (Leimarel Sidabi Ima Keithel) and No 3 (Phouoibi Ima Keithel) will remain close on Thursday on account of the cleaning and beautification work to be done.
The notice informed that IMC is taking up the step to keep the three Ima Keithel complexes neat and clean during the visit of the delegation of G-20 countries.
Assessing the beautification works being taken up at Ima Keithel, MAHUD minister Y Khemchand told media persons that street vendors are demeaning the image of Ima Keithel and the government will take up an initiative to address the issue of street vendors soon.
Even though the street vendors are coming out in the market to earn their livelihood, one cannot deny the problems they are creating in the market, which is why the government is exploring solutions, he reasoned.
Informing that the beautification works will be completed by February 15, the minister said that lack of coordination among the different government departments is being reflected in the drainage system around Ima Keithel.
He emphasised the need for a proper planning by involving relevant departments and stakeholders to address such issues.
The minister also warned male vendors from carrying out their trades in Ima Keithel complexes, and urged the public to inform IMC if they found male vendors operating in Ima Keithel complexes.
He also appealed to all concerned to dispose waste materials responsibly by following the guidelines of IMC.
