Inpi Chamber of Commerce Moreh (ICCM) has extended its gratitude to 20th Assam Rifles and 5th Assam Rifles for providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Moreh and surrounding areas.
A release issued by ICCM stated that the impact of COVID-19 pandemic during the years 2020-21 and the subsequent political imbroglio in neighbouring Myanmar have harshly affected the livelihood & economic condition of the people of border town, Moreh and surrounding areas.
It continued that Moreh being an international border town, both the Centre and State Government imposed certain restrictions from time to time according to situations.
"Border trade has come to a standstill since Covid outbreak.
Moreover, the various structures and restrictions have crippled the economic activities of the majority populace whose means of earning a livelihood largely depend on exchange of goods, as it is not possible to survive on agriculture", it added.
ICCM stated that 5th and 20th Assam Rifles, who are familiar and well acquainted with the plights and economic conditions of the people have been understanding and kind enough to make adjustments & concessions so that the people do not starve by way of allowing considerable relaxations.
ICCM further appealed to the Government and authority concerned to allow trading of all permissible goods from both sides with the exception of contraband drugs & arms so that the hardships of the people may be addressed.
