Thoubal, February 08 2023:
All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) has hailed the judgement passed by the Manipur High Court dismissing the recruitment of Bhabeswor Tongbram, who was appointed as the vice chancellor of Manipur Technical University (MTU) with fraudulent documents and in violation of Section 7.3 of University Grants Commission (UGC).
In a statement released by its HRD secretary Kh Dilshan on Wednesday, AMMSO said that although many tried to interfere in the case and its volunteers received threats on their lives, the Organisation persisted for justice and rectifying the wrongs in the varsity.
The prolonged struggle finally came to fruition with the High Court's judgement.
Nonetheless, AMMSO will continue to keep a close watch over the technical university until all the wrongdoings are rectified and the benefits of Meitei Pangal community guaranteed.
The students' body further stressed the need for investigating against other MTU officials, responsible for the huge error in the advertisement and recruitment process by the University's Board of Management (BOM) or forming a specific independent committee to look into the same.
It then hoped that the landmark judgement of the High Court will wash away the allegations levelled against AMMSO by students and private individuals hired by Bhabeshwor and his group.
It then said that since the High Court has passed its judgment, the government should also declare the appointments of 32 assistant professors, passed by Bhabeshwor as interview recruitment chairman, null and void at the earliest.
A fresh recruitment must be conducted to appoint capable person(s) to the job.
AMMSO also urged for issuing an advertisement for appointment of a regular VC so as to protect the career of students and further assure strict adherence to UGC guidelines.
