Imphal, February 08 2023:
Manipuri Meitei-Pangal Social Unification and Upliftment Organisation (MMSUUO) and Pangal Youths' Defence Council (PYDC) Manipur have strongly reacted against the statement of some organisations made with 'the alleged intention to disrupt the peaceful co-existence among the various communities in the State' .
President of MMSUUO in a press release condemned the statements and acts of some individuals and organisations trying to ruin the bond of love and harmony among the indigenous communities of the State.
The organisation denounced the statement allegedly trying to marginalise and provoke the Meitei Pangal community which has become a minority thereby portraying them as 'immigrants' .
The Government should take up strict measures to check such acts posing a serious threat to the unity and integrity of the State, added the release.
MMSUUO urged all concerned to refrain from making such 'misleading and provocative statements' in future to ensure that the bond of love and brotherhood among the different communities remain unharmed.
Information and Publicity Secretary, Pangal Youths' Defence Council Manipur in a separate press statement asserted that the demand to include Meitei Pangals in the Scheduled Tribe list of the Indian Constitution is appropriate in view of the pitiable conditions of the Meitei Pangals.
Denouncing the statement of a particular organisation which was intended to harm the sentiments of the indigenous communities, PYDC-Manipur appealed to all to be cautious of the acts of such 'evil-minded organisations' .
The Council appealed to the Government to keep a strict vigil over such organisations to prevent unwanted outcomes in future which may lead to isolation of different communities thereby damaging the integrity and unity of Manipur.
Pledging support to the activities of the Meitei-Pangal Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee (MPSTDC), MMSUUO and PYDC-Manipur termed that the demand to include Meitei-Pangal in the Scheduled Tribe list of the Indian Constitution is a democratic demand since constitutional support is needed for the protection of identity and existence of this minority community which are in a vulnerable state.
