Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba raised issues related to chronic kidney cases in the Parliament yesterday.
He enquired about the total number of patients who underwent kidney transplant surgery in 2022 and asked if there is a rise in the number of chronic kidney cases among youths under 25 in the North East.
Leishemba Sanajaoba asked if it is true that most of the cases among youths in the North East are in Manipur and whether there has been any survey to study such cases in the region.
Answering the questions raised, Health and Family Welfare Minister of State Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar said 11,423 patients in India had kidney transplant surgery in 2022 .
According to the Health of the Nation's States-The India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative, a study conducted in 2017, it is estimated that the proportion of deaths due to Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in India have increased from 37.9% in 1990 to 61.8% in 2016 .
