MP Sanajaoba queries CKD issues in Parliament

Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has drawn the attention of the Parliament towards the issues of chronic kidney diseases (CKD) in the country, emphasising on the north east in general and Manipur in particular, on Tuesday.
While raising questions during the ongoing Parliament session on Tuesday, Leishemba Sanajaoba urged the House to provide the list of patients who have undergone kidney transplant during the year 2022 in the country.
Enquiring whether the number of chronic kidney patients below 25 years of age is increasing in the north eastern states and whether there has been any survey conducted or attempt made to find out the reasons for the increase, if any, the MP also queried about the increasing cases of CKD reported in Manipur and asked the House to clarify over the matter in depth if at all the government has conducted any survey or investigation to trace the truth in this regard.
Replying to the queries of MP Sanajaoba, health and family welfare minister Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar informed that a total of 11,423 patients have undergone kidney transplant in the year 2022 .
According to the health of the nation's state India state level disease burden study conducted in 2016, Non Communicable Disease (NCD) deaths contribute to around 61.8 percent of the total fatalities in the country.
However, no report on the present cases of people below 25 years of age with chronic kidney disease in the north east has been mentioned in the information provided by National Health System Resource Centre (NHSRC), the minister added.
He further informed that the ministry of health and family welfare under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) is providing help in building haemodialysis centre in district hospitals and peritoneal dialysis service centres located in all the states and union territories.
The ministry of health and family welfare has also instituted the IT dashboard (PMNDP portal) to provide renal registration process in all the states and union territories under the "One Nation, One Dialysis" scheme, the minister said while adding that PMNDP portal launched on May 5, 2022 will have a unique ABHA ID for registering dialysis patients.
