DGP, MK Das assures action against rogue cops

Director General of Police (DGP) MK Das has assured that no police personnel who were found involved in criminal activities or harassing the people instead of ensuring their security and protection would be spared and stringent action would be initiated against such personnel.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, DGP MK Das said that police are there for the protection and security of the people.
So, if any of the police personnel creating problem to the people or were found involved in criminal activities, then the State Police Department would never remain quiet and necessary actions would be initiated against them.
To a question on what kind of action would be taken up against the two personnel of Porompat Police Station who have been suspended in connection with extortion served to a shop at Minuthong Hatta in Imphal East district, the police officer pointed out that apart from suspending them from service, the two accused police personnel have been taken into custody and two more VDF personnel involved in the same incident have been dismissed fro service.
All the necessary legal action would be taken up against the two personnel who have been taken into the custody.
Moreover, a departmental inquiry would be carried out by a committee.
The committee would complete the inquiry within one month and its recommendations would be implemented in letter and spirit.
The DGP went on to point out that all the VDF personnel who were found behind the serving of extortion note to Pharmacies in Khwairamband Bazar area recently have also been dismissed from service.
Another six VDF personnel involved in molestation of a young woman too have also been dismissed.
"Such personnel who do not know their duty and responsibility are not fit to remain in the Police Department which is there for the protection and the security of the people," the DGP observed.
He also encouraged the people to come forward and report if any police personnel were found acting against their duty and responsibility and causing problem.
On the new initiatives that have been taken up by the State Police Department for the promoting better relationship with the public, DGP MK Das informed that joint meeting with the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all the districts had been conducted to discuss the difficulties being faced by them in smooth conduct of their duties.
Efforts are also being made to ensure all the police personnel deployed in every police station perform their duties properly, the existing strength of police personnel is utilised effectively and the investigative skills of the State police is enhanced.
"The results have already started showing", the top police officer of the State claimed.
