Imphal, October 11, 2013:
The Indian Embassy in Myanmar has been working hard to introduce Imphal-Mandalay flight service ahead of the Manipur Sangai Festival scheduled next month.
In the meantime, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India has recognised Myanmar airline Golden Myanmar as additional designated flight.
Confirming this to The Sangai Express and adding that the Indian Embassy has been working hard to introduce flight service between Imphal and Mandalay, Principal Secretary (Industries) O Nabakishore informed that he has received report about correspondence between the Indian Embassy and tour operator Seven Sisters Holidays with regard to introduction of Imphal-Mandalay flight service.
Myanmar's low cost airline Golden Myanmar has been approved by DGCA as additional designated flight which would fly from Myanmar to India.
Golden Myanmar is also interested in operating on Imphal-Mandalay air route, informed a source.
Golden Myanmar has also been working to make its first landing at Imphal airport ahead of the Manipur Sangai Festival scheduled next month.
Incidentally, Tulihal Airport has already completed all formalities of being an international airport.
Golden Myanmar General Manager Aung Gyi has agreed to receive a delegation of travel agents and GSA agents from India in Myanmar to decide a GSA (General Sales Agent) for Golden Myanmar and explore opportunities for joint operations/code-share flights to and from various destinations.
The Indian Embassy has also written to low cost Indian airlines like Spice-Jet and Indigo for the proposed flight service.
For India and Myanmar have already signed a bilateral air services agreement during Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to Myanmar last year, private airlines may also operate on the new route.
The Indian Embassy is working on an extended flight service between Mandalay and Budh Gaya via Imphal and Guwahati.
