Prof Rajendra Kshetri : First Sociology Prof from Manipur

Department of Sociology of Manipur University and Manipur Sociological Society (MSS) feted Prof Rajendra Kshetri on becoming the first Professor from Manipur in Sociology subject.
A reception cum monthly lecture programme was held at the conference hall of Department of Sociology of Manipur University today.
Nagaland University conferred Professorship in Sociology to Rajendra Kshetri on September 9 this year.
Dean of Social Science Prof E Bijoykanta and Prof Rajendra Kshetri, who is currently serving as a Professor in Nagaland University attended the function as functional president and chief guest respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Kshetri said that nothing is impossible if a man puts his wholehearted effort in his chosen field.
Suggesting the younger generation to work hard, Prof Kshetri said that they would succeed if they work with dedication and passion.
Prof E Bijoykumar while speaking at the function congratulated Prof Kshetri on being achieving the feat.
He added that it is a proud moment and inspiration to everybody particularly to the students of Sociology.
Dr Ksh Imokanta delivered lecture on the topic, 'Sociology of performance and construction of meaning in Shumang Leela' at the function.
Prof Rajendra Kshetri is a founder faculty member of Department of Sociology of Nagaland University (1997). Rajendra Kshetri was the Head of Department for more than seven years.
He served as Director-in-Charge in the UGC sponsored Tribal Research Centre of the Department for three years.
He was the founder member of the Nagaland State Human Rights Committee as well.
Prof Kshetri did his Master in Sociology from the University of Bombay in 1982.He obtained PhD from the Centre for Social Studies, Surat in 1989 as an ICSSR doctoral fellow.
Prior to joining Nagaland University, the Professor served as Research Associate at the Centre for Manipur Studies and Tribal Research, Manipur University from 1989 to 1995. For the last two and a half decades, Prof Kshetri has been actively engaging in teaching and research including doctoral supervision.
The Professor was an expert consultant to the Ministry of Municipal Administration Housing and Urban Development, Government of Manipur for the preparation of strategy report on Imphal city in the year 2000. Prof Kshetri had presented several occasional papers and prepared complete projects including 'Maram primitive tribe project' sponsored by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
His specialised area is social movement and other areas of interest include Political Sociology, Sociology of Education, Sociology of Literature and Oral History.
Every now and then, Prof Kshetri's articles appeared in national and local dailies.
Prof Kshetri had authored books like 'The Emergence of Meetei Nationalism', District Council in Manipur: Formation and Functioning', 'Sociology: Perception and Conception'.
'Wonderland: Thy Name is Manipur' is one of the forthcoming books of Prof Kshetri.
