Agartala road to be named after Manipuri dance guru

Imphal, May 06 2022: Agartala Municipal Corporation has resolved to name a road after renowned Manipuri Dance guru Pangabam Thakur Nabakumar, who was a Manipuri settled in Agartala.

A notice issued by the Municipal commissioner said that the corporation after thorough discussion resolved to name the road stretch from Chandrapur Bazar to Chandrapur Manipur Basti (Manipuri Mandir) in Agartala as Thakur Nabakumar Singh Sarani.

It may be mentioned here that Pangabam Thakur Nabakumar was sent to Santiniketan for learning Manipuri Dance by the then king of Tripura in 1925.He was the second Manipuri dance guru from Tripura who went to Santiniketan.
