Sewerage Project to cover 16 more wards: Susindro

PHE minister L Susindro has informed that process is underway for floating tender for the second phase of Imphal Sewerage Project to cover the remaining 16 wards of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC), which were not included in the first phase.
Stating that the second phase of the project is being estimated to cost Rs 1256 crore, Susindro told The People's Chronicle at his office chamber in New Secretariat here Friday, that the second phase will be taken up as an Externally Aided Project (EAP) under the funding of New Development Bank (NDB).
The first phase of the project implemented in 27 wards and as such, the remaining 16 wards (number 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 27) would be covered in the second phase.
The targeted population of the project is around 3.85 lakh.
The minister also conceded that though the tender process has been initiated, the project will take some years to be fully completed.
He further affirmed that necessary efforts would be made to resolve all sewage issues during this period.
While noting that the citizens are bound to be affected when any development work is taken up, Susindro appealed to the people to be patient and exercise restraint for some time as digging of the roads for laying the pipes is inevitable.
