Imphal, May 06 2022:
A team of Unemployed Pharmacist Association of Manipur (UPAM) and JNIMS Pharmacy Association conducted an inspection drive in pharmacies opened around JNIMS today to check whether they adhere to the guidelines of opening a pharmacy.
During today's visit which was led by president of UPAM, Th Sumon, pharmacies which were found to be opened violating the guidelines were shut down .
It was found that many pharmacies held invalid licenses, did not have fridges to maintain the temperature to store the medicines, unavailability of life saving drugs required to be kept in pharmacies, no adherence of maintaining the space needed in a pharmacy and so on.
Speaking to the reporter of TSE in connection with today's inspection visit, Th Sumon expressed concern over the ongoing trend of opening pharmacies in the State in an unprofessional way violating the essential criteria which is really unfortunate.
He went on to state that it is the responsibility of the Drug Licensing Authority and Drug Inspectors to look into such anomalies and to take up stringent measures against the violators.
On the contrary, there is a high possibility that licenses are being provided illegally to open such pharmacies, he added.
Lastly he sought the attention of the authorities concerned to look into the matter and take up appropriate measures accordingly.
He also maintained that the pharmacies which were shut will be allowed to open if they fulfill the essential criteria of opening a pharmacy.
