Imphal, August 29 2026: Veteran politician Okram Joy has asserted that the Manipur violence erupted and it could not be resolved till date because of BJP's failure to adhere to the country's Constitution.

Speaking to media persons at his residence at Kakwa today, Joy pointed out that India is a parliamentary system of democracy and the parliamentary system was set up under the Constitution.

However, BJP has not been complying with the Constitution since it came to power, he said.

BJP is not following even their own Constitution and rules.

The words of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are now BJP's overriding rules, Joy said.

The veteran politician categorically stated that the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023 was a creation of 10 MLAs from BJP and a few other political parties.

He decried that neither BJP nor the State Assembly has taken any action against those BJP MLAs who are a key party to the conspiracy aimed at disintegrating Manipur.

It was under BJP's rule that Manipur witnessed prolonged, widespread violence and cannibalism, comparable to the Seven Years Devastation of the 19th century, he said.

He pointed out that neither the Modi Government nor the State Government has so far taken any concrete action to resolve the Manipur crisis.

He went on to question why the BJP Government despite enjoying an overwhelming majority of 54 MLAs is still unable to take any tangible step to resolve the crisis.

The incumbent State Government is not a Government.

It is more of a committee set up by BJP to fulfil the party's wishes, Joy said.

"I would like to appeal to Modi and Amit Shah to entrust due power to the State and let it function like a real Government", the veteran politician continued.

Debates and discussions in the State Assembly are bounden duties of all the legislators.

If not, there is no point in having an Assembly and electing the legislators, he said.

Former MLA RK Anand said that census and delimitation exercises, if carried out under the prevailing situation, will entail huge losses to the indigenous people.

It was under BJP's rule that Manipur witnessed the June 18, 2001 mass uprising.

As the saffron party came back to power, Manipur is now witnessing widespread violence at an unprecedented scale and the party is poised to destroy the indigenous communities, RK Anand said.
