16 Assam Rifles team wins Senapati district T20 cricket tournament title

Senapati, March 09 2024:
The Maram Battalion of Assam Rifles in association with the Senapati District Cricket Association successfully organised an enthralling district-level T20 cricket tournament in Senapati district of Manipur.
The tournament, which commenced on February 28, 2024, marked a significant event in the picturesque hill district of Senapati towards promoting the game of cricket.
A total of eight teams, namely 16 AR, Crazy Roamers from Maram, Persian Cricket Team from Kangpokpi, Unique Guns from Senapati, Poumai Cricket Club from Senapati, The Boyz Cricket Club from Kangpokpi, SDCA from Senapati, and Katomei Cricket Club from Katomei, showcased their skills throughout the league round held from February 28 to March 6, 2024 .
Crazy Roamers, Unique Guns, SDCA and 16 AR emerged as the deserving semifinalists, leading to thrilling semifinal matches on March 8.Ultimately, 16 AR and Crazy Roamers secured tljeir spots in the finals.
In a nail-biting final showdown on March 9, 16 AR won the toss and chose to bat first, putting up a commendable performance of scoring 201 runs in 20 overs with loss of 5 wickets.
Rifleman Prians-hu Bharti played an exceptional knock of 108 runs off 73 balls.
Despite their valiant effort, Crazy Roamers fell short, managing 196 runs off 5 wickets, and 16 AR secured a 5-run victory.
Riflemen Prianshu Bharti of 16 Assam Rifles was awarded the prestigious title of 'Man of the Series and Man of the Match' while Ashu of Crazy Roamers, who exhibited bowling excellence, got the 'Best Bowler' award.
Moreover, the remarkable batting display by Baling of Crazy Roamers led to his well-deserved recognition as the 'Best Batsman of the tournament' .
The tournament's grand finale was indeed a thrilling cricket match along with a cultural extravaganza of musical performances by Namrata Rai and the Jazz band of Maram Battalion.
Through this tournament, Assam Rifles and the Senapati District Cricket Association are fostering a spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie and healthy competition amongst participants.
This event will act as a medium to foster sense of community and create a platform for young talent to shine.
Eventually the terminal objective remains to unite people through medium of sports in hill districts in present turbulent situation of Manipur.
Speaking to this correspondent, Col Aditya Deo, commandant Maram Battalion, stated that Maram Battalion conducted District level Cricket Tournament for the last 10 days with a view to popularise cricket in the area, realising its popularity in the country.
The army commandant expressed his desire to see someone with the potential to play in the IPL or Ranji Trophy in future.
When the game became so popular in Imphal valley but not in the hill districts, the commandant stated that it was through the endeavour from the Assam Rifles to increase cricket's popularity in the hills.
During the tournament, Col Aditya said that he saw some of the locals hit even century, exhibiting their cricketing talent.
The commandant was confident that the tournament would grow in popularity in the region and produce great players.
