Imphal, March 09 2024:
Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his apparent silence regarding the ongoing crisis in the state, 'Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) expressed disappointment over the Prime Minister s lack of acknowledgment or intervention in the matter despite simmering tensions in the state for more than 10 months.
During a media briefing held at Congress Bhawan, here, on Saturday, MPCC vice-president Alfred K Arthur lambasted PM Modi, accusing him of neglecting the state's plight despite being the leader of the nation.
He emphasised that in any democratic country, it's imperative for leaders to address and resolve crises promptly.
He lamented Modi's apparent disinterest in addressing the turmoil engulfing Manipur, and said that the Prime Minister seems to be more preoccupied with self-promotion and socialising with influential figures.
Highlighting the prolonged period of unrest in the state, Arthur criticised Modi's failure to alleviate the suffering of the state's residents.
He argued that while Manipur remains an integral part of India, its people have endured significant turmoil for over 10 months, with little to no intervention from the central government.
Arthur further condemned the BJP governments, both at the Centre and in the state, attributing its governance to exacerbating various issues, including rising unemployment.
He assured that the Congress party is committed to addressing these challenges, promising efforts to create jobs and ensure social security once in power.
Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent address during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra Mega Rally in Banswara, Rajasthan, Arthur highlighted Gandhi's pledge to prioritise employment generation and job security if the Congress assumes power at the national level.
He underscored Gandhi's promises as transformative and crucial in light of the current administration's perceived failures in addressing unemployment.
