Imphal, March 09 2024:
Strongly condemning the brutal assault of a driver and handyman belonging to Meetei Pangal community by Kukis on March 7; Manipur Meitei Pangal Welfare Organisation (MMWO) president Khorimayum Boboy has demanded the government to bring out all Meetei Pangals from Moreh, and said that the community will begin preparations to join in the conflict.
Addressing a press meet held at MMWO's office in Hapta on Saturday, Boboy condemned the assault on the driver and handyman by the Kukis just for transporting construction supplies for the state forces in Moreh.
The truck burnt down by the Kukis belonged to a non-local and the contract work for construction of the barrack of Manipur Police at IB Moreh is given to a Meetei Pangal.
Demanding the state government to take appropriate legal action against the culprits involved in the incident by March 13; Boboy remarked that the tolerance level of Meetei Pangals is at the limit, adding that the incident would not have occurred if the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police had taken up pre-emptive measures.
Urging all concerned not to indulge in such inhumane behaviour against any community in the future, he said that it was unfortunate to see the Kukis acting wilfully with utter disregard of the law.
There is no meaning of the central forces being deployed in Manipur, he rued.
