Imphal, March 09 2024: For the second time in the entire North East region, a Radio-active Iodine Therapy Centre has been opened at Babina Speciality Hospital (American Oncology Institute), Khabeisoi, Imphal East.

Radioactive Iodine Therapy is applied in treating thyroid cancer.

A Radioactive Iodine Therapy Centre was laun-ched today at Babina Spe- ciality Hospital with Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan as the chief guest.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr Sapam Ranjan said that the Radioactive Iodine Therapy Centre would be highly beneficial to the people of Manipur.

Of all the diseases afflicting mankind, 65 per cent are non-communicable diseases.

He said that the Government has been working to ensure early detection of cancers as far as possible under CMHT.

The Health Minister sta-ted that private hospitals have been sharing a major role in the State's healthcare sector.

With CMHT and PMJAY providing substantial assistance towards treatment of many medical problems, smooth coordination between Govt and private hospitals can go a long way in addressing the healthcare problems of citizens, Dr Ranjan said.

Speaking at the function presided by Babina Diagnostics CMD Dr Th Dhaballi, Health Director Dr Oinam Sanahanbi remarked that today's function was a landmark event in the healthcare services of Manipur.

She said that thyroid cancer is more common among women.

When one gets infected by cancer, he/she grows weaker both physically and mentally and it breeds a big financial burden to the family, Dr Sanahanbi said.

The Radioactive Iodine Therapy Centre opened today would prove to be a big relief to cancer patients of the State, she added.
